The Kilifi gubernatorial race has taken a different turn after former Labour Cabinet Secretary Kazungu Kambi declared interest in the seat.
Kambi said he is the right candidate to correct the mistakes made by past leaders.
This comes at a time when the county has been on the spotlight over a Sh52 million corruption scandal.
Kazungu’s entry into the race is expected to stir up the political waters in this region.
The outspoken politician said he will be contesting on a Kadu Asili ticket and his main objective would be 'cleaning' the county administration that has been marred with numerous cases of corruption.
“Residents advised me to vie for the seat on a Kadu Asili ticket because they feel this is an indigenous party, that best represents their aspirations,” he said.
Last week, Kazungu accused Governor Amason Kingi for tolerating corrupt officials within his government, as the common mwananchi languishes in poverty.
According to Kazungu, widespread corruption has led to lack of essential resources in the region.
“Our people need water, roads, irrigation and health facilities,” said Kambi, as quoted by The Standard.
