Former Labour CS Kazungu Kambi has outlined elaborate plans to transform Kilifi County if he’s elected governor in the upcoming August 8 polls.
According to the Star, Kambi’s ambitious plans include setting up a county bank, where women will access cheaper loans instead of relying on harambees for help.“There will be no more fundraisers for Kilifi women,” Kambi said in Matano Manne in Ganze, on Saturday. He said his administration will work together with the county assembly and ask it to pass a bill to start the process of forming the said county bank.Other major tasks the former minister plans to undertake include provision of water and ensuring there is a well-equipped level five hospital in all the county’s constituencies.“Kilifi residents will have to drink clean water to their fill before we sell the water to other counties. Women will no longer be transferred to the Coast General Hospital or Kenyatta National Hospital for surgery in case of complications,” he said.Kilifi senator hopeful Lucas Maitha echoed Kambi’s sentiments on the establishment of the county bank saying it is a workable idea with great benefits to residents.“Accounts for such funds as the Uwezo Fund, Affirmative Action Fund and the likes will be opened at the Kilifi bank. In the process, the bank will make profits and be able to give loans at subsidised interest rates,” Maitha added.
