Time is fast ticking on the opening of a Kenya Breweries Limited keg plant in Kisumu that will see the beer manufacture bring on board around 15,000 sorghum farmers to supply the crop.

The company's representatives are already on the ground and in the process of striking deals with farmers, mainly in parts of Homa Bay and Siaya which are the major growing areas of sorghum.

Jane Karuku, the Kenya Breweries Limited Managing Director, said that the company is keen on tapping the promising Nyanza market.

KBL will heavily rely on the supply of sorghum from farmers.

''We are engaging over 15,000 sorghum farmers in Nyanza for our plant which will open doors next year,'' said Karuku.

KBL's venture into the Nyanza has been hailed for its potential to help ease the unemployment crisis ravaging the country, especially among the youth.
