Journalists were covering a standoff between immigration officials and NRM self-proclaimed general Miguna Miguna before uniformed officers turned on them, injuring several journalists as the event was being broadcasted live.

KCA National Management Committee met in Nairobi on Tuesday and reviewed the media environment and expressed dismay over the increasing attacks on press freedom, including the attack on journalists who were covering the arrival of Opposition activist Miguna Miguna at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

"KCA calls for concerted efforts by all media stakeholders under the aegis of the Kenya Media Sector Working Group to protect the hard won media freedoms under the 2010 constitution," said KCA in a communique.

During the meeting, the KCA Board also held discussions with Jutta Vom Hofe, Kenya Country Coordinator, DW Akademie on areas of continued collaboration on media training and development.
