KCAA director-general Gilbert Kibe.[Photo/Ndege news]Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) has withdrawn permits of Two local airlines for violating the air license rules.The Wilson Airport-based airlines, which are licensed to carry passengers, have been illegally ferrying cargo without the clearance of the regulator.The two, according to KCAA, have gone against what they have been licensed to do."I am happy to announce that two airlines operating illegal activities have been grounded. Whoever else is engaged in such activities should be warned that action will be taken without delay and mercy", said Transport CS James MachariaKCAA director-general Gilbert Kibe also confirmed the allegations without revealing their identities "It is true we have grounded the two airlines for defying the set rules." Mr Kibe further commented on the issue saying the the two airlines had removed seats on the aircraft to create space for cargo.Mr Kibe did not give details on cargo that these airlines ferry from Wilson Airport to their destination, but pointed out that miraa forms part of the cargo that is transported.The International Civil Aviation Organisation is planning to conduct an audit in Kenya in July amidst concerns the country may fail and get blacklisted.The investigation comes a few days after the CS deployed a team to probe the claims at Wilson Jomo Kenyatta international airports.
