[Photo|BCG]Four students from Busia County on Friday received fully paid secondary school scholarships courtesy of the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Foundation.The beneficiaries of the scholarships programme include; Mathew Wandera and Barasa Tyson who have joined Kolanya Boys High School, Brucelee Ian (Sigalame High) and Rosemary Airo (St Monica Chakol Girls). Airo scored 398 marks in KCPE, Wandera (392), Brucelee (387) and Barasa (365).KCB Busia Branch Manager Christopher Komen said the bank was awarding the scholarships to the quartet at a combined cost of Sh314,000 for the first year.He said the scholarships would carter for full school fees, stationery and uniform for the students throughout their four years of studies."Additionally, the students will also be assigned to a mentor from this branch for quarterly one-on-one mentorship sessions as they undertake their studies," he said.KCB Foundation representative Silas Ojiambo said a total of 269 students submitted their applications but only four were considered to confirm that many needy students are out there, thus the need for support from all stakeholders.Ojiambo said the four were part of 240 bright but needy students across Kenya who sat for the 2017 KCPE that KCB Group is supporting through the KCB Foundation- the Group's social investment arm.He said a total of 46 students had been sponsored from Busia since the start of the programme in 2007."So far 1,552 students have benefitted from the KCB scholarships since 2007. Out of this number 117 are persons with disabilities," said Ojiambo.
