KCB RFC got off to a winning start in their defence of Kenya Cup title, whipping Strathmore University 27-0 on Saturday.
2016 winners Kabras Sugar RFC saw off a resilient Mwamba RFC in an entertaining fixture, with the Sugar-men leaving it late to snatch the victory.
The two teams, winners of the last three editions, will be strong contenders for the title again this season and laid a mark on Saturday.
Winger Collins Wanjala and substitute Arthur Owiro scored a brace of tries each, helping the bankers to a clean victory.
According to coach Curtis Olago, his charges did well, breaking down a tight defense of their opponents.
"We won yes but not the way I wanted. We were too casual and slow the whole match. Our execution needs to get better moving forward," said Olago as quoted by the Nation.
He added: “The Leos really gave us a run at the break down especially in the first half.”
KCB RFC and Kabras Sugar RFC, winners of the last three Kenya Cup titles, showed why they are the teams to beat yet again this season as they got their campaigns off the mark on Saturday.
In other fixtures, newcomers Kisii RFC and Mombasa RFC lost their opening matches to Nakuru RFC and Impala Saracens respectively.
Kisii lost 45-15 to the Nakuru-based club, while Mombasa lost 48-0 to the Saracens.
