Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) has offered to sponsor top 2017 Kenyan Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) from Machakos County as they join different Secondary schools starting Tuesday next week.

According to a local daily, the financial institution's management has expressed its commitment to support needy and bright students from across the county and the entire nation in their pursuit of education.

Kennedy Kyalo (408), Stephen Mativo (402), Kelvin Mwendwa (397), Johnbosco Mutuku (396) and Mwethya Mutisya (382) are among the students to benefit from the financing. The bank has offered to pay Sh54, 000 each for school fees and a further Sh25, 000 for shopping.

Speaking to the press, KCB Machakos branch manager Simon Haloda said the five students deserve the chance to be supported in their education for making the region proud.

"Our boys have been neglected in a big way. We have always put emphasis on the girl child," Haloda said, as quoted by The Star.

He added: "That is why you will notice that we deliberately settled on more boys for the scholarship this year." The sponsorship is a reprieve to the parents of the students.
