The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations has kicked off as scheduled in Uasin Gishu County.

Director of Education Nicodemus Anyang said 23,581 students in the county are sitting for the examinations.

"Pupils from the  600 examination centers started their examinations at 8:30 am without any delay as per the Kenya National Examinations Council schedules," he said in Eldoret town after visiting a pupil who was hit by a motorbike at MTRH, Tuesday.

"Out of 23,000 pupils 12,000 are girls while 11,000 are boys," he added. 

He, however, revealed that there was one hardship case where a student was knocked by a motorbike and he is sitting for his examinations

at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH). 

"We have a special case where one Emmanuel Kipkemboi from St Cornelius Tililalwa Primary School in Kesses sub-county was  hit by a motorbike a day before the exams commenced. The boy is now in a stable condition and he is sitting for his examinations at the hospital premises," noted Anyang.

The pupil suffered head and leg injuries.

He reiterated that they have not received any cases of irregularities.

Elsewhere examinations at Eldo Baraka Academy kicked off as planned this is according to the supervisor Paul Kipruto.

"We have not encountered any difficulties since the environment is conducive. We expect the exercise to run smoothly until Thursday," he said.
