This comes as a shock to Kenyans as the KCPE results have always been released late December and the selection process done in January.

Last year the permanent secretary for education Belio Kipsang wrote to county directors of education and secondary school heads saying that the selection process would be on merit, equity and choice of schools.

“Five top boys and girls in every sub-county will be placed in the national school of their choice,” read part of the statement given to the county directors of education and secondary schools heads.

Other pupils in every sub-county will be selected according to their marks between public and private schools he added.

The statement indicated that candidates who are not admitted to schools of their choice will be placed in schools of comparable level of performance.
