In the 2016 KCSE results released on Thursday by Education CS Fred Matiangi, English and Kiswahili languages registered the lowest means in comparison to the 2015 exam.
According to the results by the ministry, Maths alternative B and Biology for blind students registered no deviation.
It is thought that the strict measures Matiangi put into place to curb cheating are responsible for the big decline in performance in the languages.
“Some students have confessed to not being able to cope through a year of university after posting mean grades of A plain in the previous years,” Matiangi said in reference to the cheating case of previous years.
Also, the new measures by Matiangi saw exam markers complete their task in record time with little room for moderation of the results, an area it is believed examiners would alter results to favour schools at the expense of others.
“Some subjects were marked in under one month. This is efficiency," said Knec chairman George Magoha as quoted by the Star.
