Evelyn Ndunge, 17, from Ngoiya secondary school allegedly disagreed with her aunt, Caroline Mwenda, on Thursday evening after she returned home from school. The student was reported missing after she reportedly quarrelled with her aunt. The aunt had allegedly barred her from meeting with her boyfriend until she completed her Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.

According to the aunt, Ndunge wanted to meet her boyfriend which she was against because it would have interfered with her concentration in the ongoing exams. The niece was adamant and left the house agitated and never returned.

“Ndunge left so angered and I thought she would just come back. She always leaves the house and comes back, but today it was different,” Mwenda said.

Jane Muasya, Ndunge’s mother said that she received a phone call from her sister that her daughter was missing and had not returned home since she left.

“My daughter has never done this before. I am surprised by this behaviour as she always comes back,” said the mother.

Thika west OCPD Shadrack Maithya said they have apprehended the boyfriend and the aunt who are in custody as they proceed with investigations.

Maithya added that if found guilty, the two will be prosecuted unless they reveal the whereabouts of the minor.
