A KCSE candidate in Bungoma gave birth a few hours to her first exam on Monday.

The 18-year-old sat for Mathematics paper 1 at St Bakhita Misikhu where she was rushed to with labour pains on Sunday evening.

Stephen Korir, a medic, said she had labour pains but delivered normally.

"We received her at around 9 pm. She has been brought for her exam papers here and she has done it well," he said.

Korir said the girl will be discharged after she has recovered fully.

The girl's mother expressed joy at having gotten a grandson and promised to take care of him as the daughter pursues her studies.

"I am happy for my daughter who is my first born and will take care of this child while she does her exams and even when she goes to college," she said.

Exams went on well in the rest of the country.
