Education Cabinet secretary Fred Matiang'i, has indicated that the marking of the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) may be concluded before the end of the year.
This is a break from tradition where KCSE results were released in late February or early March.
Matiang'i was speaking during the launch of form one selection at the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development in Nairobi.
The cabinet secretary said that the move was in a bid to stop powerful cartels who have long been using the prolonged marking period to influence results.
Matiang'i has been lauded by many Kenyans who view him as one of the best performing cabinet secretaries.
This year, 577,253 candidates wrote the KCSE exam, an increase from 54,383 from 2015.
