Uasin Gishu Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK) has welcomed a recent move by the government to deploy Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) to Baringo county.
Chairman Sheikh Abubakar Bini however said KDF deployment to the area would not give a lasting solution to insecurity whose genesis is cattle rustling.
Speaking in Eldoret, Thursday, Bini noted that for a lasting solution over the matter to be achieved, religious leaders must take centre stage.
"There is insecurity in Baringo, West Pokot and the neighboring counties because of cattle rustling which is like the tradition of communities living there and even if KDF might restore some calm, it won't last until we witness another attack," noted Bini.
"The only lasting solution is for Christians, Muslims and any other religions in the country to focus on making the communities in those areas know God and from there it will be much easier to change their mentality on cattle rustling," he added.
