Environmental conservation geared towards meeting the required 10 percent forest cover in the country continues to attract more stakeholders.
On Tuesday, the County Government of Uasin Gishu led by Executive in charge of Environment, Water, Natural Resources, Tourism and Wildlife Management Mary Njogu joined hands with the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) officers, National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and Kenya Water Towers in planting trees in Leseru, Turbo Sub-County.
Leseru was recently gazetted as a water tower, making it the only in the county hence giving the area a priority in conservation.
During the exercise, 10,000 tree seedlings both indigenous and exotic donated by the Governor Jackson Mandago-led administration were planted.
Speaking during the exercise, Njogu said that the county is committed to meeting the 10 percent mark in forest cover noting that Leseru being a water tower needs to be highly conserved and protected.
"Leseru is the only water tower we have in the county and the only way we can conserve this precious facility is by planting enough trees. This will really take us a long way in having enough water not only in this area but the entire county," said the County Executive.
