The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldiers working under the African Union Mission In Somalia (AMISOM) peacekeeping umbrella have killed 15 Al-Shabaab terrorists in Gedo, Somalia.

This is after the soldiers identified a terrorist camp 4km West of Catamaa, approximately 104 kilometres from the border town of El wak, Gedo region, Monday morning.

"The KDF AMISOM detachment from a nearby location engaged the terrorists using artillery and motor fire and successfully destroyed the terrorists camp,'' said KDF Colonel, Public Affairs, Joseph Owuoth.

"Approximately 15 terrorists were neutralised, many more injured and one technically destroyed,'' he added.

In a statement, KDF assured the public that operations against the Al-Shabaab would continue until all the terrorists are eliminated to ensure locals continue to enjoy peace and security.

The attack comes few days after the terrorists were reportedly forced to execute some of their own, following suspicion that they were leaking secrets to the Kenyan intelligence in Somalia.

KDF have been in the neighbouring country since October 2011.
