Police in Eldoret has arrested a man suspected to be a Kenya Defense Force (KDF) officer in connection with a network of cartels selling illicit brew in Munyaka estate on the outskirts of Eldoret town.
During the arrest, over 300 sachets of Simba Waragi spirit brew from Uganda was also impounded.
According to Munyaka Village elder Chris Macharia, the raid was done in partnership with Kapsoya police post officers led by Kapsoya OCPP William Edung.
"We managed to arrest two suspects, one suspected to be a KDF officer and they will be arraigned in court soon," said Macharia.
"It's sad that illegal liquor can now be accessed easily since its now sold in houses and I call upon both the County and national government to help us end this mess since out children have been addicted," he added.
The village elder noted that the illicit liquor is now being sold to primary school going children in Munyaka forcing them to drop out of school which is contrary to the law.
He, however, called for enhanced surveillance at the border points where the liquor finds its way to the country since its destroying people’s lives.
Macharia also asked the public to help in providing information that would help in bringing to end the illegal businesses.
