A soldier who crossed lanes with members of the public was on Thursday rescued by a senior director of the Criminal Investigations Department
The officer who was busted in one of the lodgings in Mwingi town with another man's wife, was defended by Mwingi DCIO James Manuni.
The officer allegedly was caught in a compromising situation with a boda boda operator's wife which made the crowd go wild.
Angry residents swarmed aroundKenya Defence Forces the guest house yelling for the suspect's blood, prompting the police to shoot in the air to rescue the 'couple' who were taken to Mwingi police station.
Said Mr Manuni; "There is no offence, the two are grown ups and since nobody came complaining to us, we will release them. They were just enjoying themselves.”
The pair is said to have been busted after the woman's husband, who was acting on a tip-off, arrived at the hotel.
After ascertaining that the two were holed up in the lodging, he locked the door before being joined by enraged residents.
"This guy is a boda boda operator in Mwingi like me and I feel for him. If it were not for the police who rescued them through the back door, we would have beaten them mercilessly,” said one of the witnesses.
Area OCPD Mohammed Ali urged residents to desist from taking the law into their hands whenever such incidents happened.
