A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer is feared dead and nine others seriously injured in a fresh banditry attack in the volatile Noosukro in Baringo South Sub-County on Friday. [Photo/courtesy]The incident took place when the officers among them General Service Unit (GSU) and police reservists were on a routine patrol when they were ambushed by armed bandits suspected to be from the neighboring Pokot community.More than five KDF,2 GSU and two KPRs sustained serious gunshot injuries in the fierce shootout with the bandits.Tension is high in the area following the incident and locals in the neighboring villages like Chebinyiny and Arabal are now living in fear of more attacks by the bandits. However, confirming the incident on phone, Baringo police coordinator Peter Ndung’u disputed the number of officers injured noting that only one reservist and a GSU officer were injured in the attack.Mr Ndung’u said that they have deployed more officers to the volatile area to engage the bandits who are wreaking havoc in the area. The incident happens barely two months after security officers carrying out an operation in the volatile areas of Baringo who had been reported to be missing were found dead at Ng’elecha valley in Baringo South Sub-County.
