The soldier, Kennedy Mukhwana from Makunga village in Tongaren constituency stabbed the son to death on March 18 this year after establishing his wife had disappeared from home and engaged with another man in Nairobi.

He tried to take away his life but was rescued by his neighbors and rushed to the Webuye sub-county hospital before being transferred to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret where he escaped from on Sunday.

Mukhwana is said to have unceremoniously left the hospital leaving nurses and his KDF colleagues who had been assigned to take care of him at the Eldoret based health facility. The hospital's management is still puzzled by the man's disappearance.

According to a senior police officer from Kitale Police Station investigating the incident who preferred to remain anonymous because of the sensitivity of the matter, the KDF escapee had been spotted in Eldoret town late on Sunday evening but those who saw him did not know he was under custody in a hospital.

"He seems to have been helped to flee the well-secured medical facility, we have intensified our investigations and will soon arrest him," the officer told journalists.
