A somber mood has engulfed a village in Bungoma County after a member of the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) is said to have committed suicide after allegedly kiling his two-year-old son by stabbing him several times.
The man who police have declined to identify because he is a member of the security forces locked himself in his two bedroom house in Makunga village, Togareni sub county before taking away his life neighbours said on Sunday.
They said the KDF soldier who was always quiet and reserved had threatened to kill his son and break his marriage after accusing his wife of infidelity.
"Three days to the incident, he threatened to kill the son and we took it jokingly," a neighbour, Wesley Wanjala told reporters at the crime scene.
"It was hard to take him serious because he used to speak while smiling even when he meant business."
Neigbours accused police of coming to the man's home late even after boda boda riders rushed to a police station about one and a half kilometres away to report the matter after the son's screams were heard from the house soldier's house.
The man's wife was away in Nairobi at the time the incident happened.
The bodies of the two were taken to the Kimilili sub county hospital mortuary where postmortem tests will be conducted.
