Kenya Defence Forces soldiers on Monday killed 5 Al-Shabaab militants in an operation in Boni Forest, Lamu County. The soldiers also recovered six AK-47 rifles, 321 rounds of ammunition, three grenades and various explosive devices after a thorough check-out at Bodhei area in Lamu County. “KDF assures the public that tracking of the terrorists will continue until the area is free from all security threats posed by this group,” Colonel David Obonyo, KDF’s Public Affairs said in a statement according to Citizen TV. In July this year, 9 people were killed at Jima village in Lamu west while in August 3 were killed during an Al-Shabaab attack on a bus in Witu County. President Kenyatta had earlier in July during a campaign rally urged locals to support the operation saying ‘flushing out the militants is crucial to national security.’
