The Kenyan military KDF has sent spokesman Colonel David Obonyo to Tanzania for further studies.

The move comes amid speculations of a plan for his replacement.

Reports say Lieutenant Colonel Paul Njuguna will stand in for Obonyo after being promoted to a full Colonel.

However, military sources have dismissed that Obonyo was intentionally sent away in a ploy to instate Njuguna.

The Lieutenant Colonel was promoted last week and has been working under him and earlier served as the Amisom spokesman in 2015.

"Njuguna has been deputising Obonyo for a while now so it is right for him to hold fort," said sources as quoted by the Star.

During the reshuffle, Major General Robert Kibochi was promoted to the ranks of Lieutenant General and was appointed the Army Commander.

Kibochi replaced Lieutenant General Leonard Ngondi who was moved to the National Defence College as a commandant.

Lieutenant General Johson Ondieki was appointed force commander for the United Nations Mission, South Sudan.
