The Kenya Defence Forces' Disaster Response Unit has taken over the rescue operations at the 10-storey building which collapsed in Kisii County on Thursday.
According to the Star, Lieutenant Joseph Martim is leading a team of 30 KDF officers who have sniffer dogs and special equipment for the exercise.
Meanwhile, the number of the dead has risen to seven after one of the victims succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital on Friday morning.
Acting chief executive Enock Hodari said 17 out the 44 who had been admitted to the hospital have been treated and discharged. Three people are reported to be in critical condition with multiple fractures.
He added that relatives have already started identifying bodies of their loved ones at the mortuary.
According to the Daily Nation Twitter, Pius Mwachi from the National Disaster Management Unit said eight people are still trapped in the rubble.
