A report by the United Nation has alleged that Kenyan defense forces working under the AMISOM umbrella in Somalia are working with terrorist group Al Shabab after failing to ban the import of charcoal which is conducted by the militia.
The report further specifies that the KDF officers at Kismayu and Buur Gaabo and not assisting the Somali government in curbing illegal charcoal imports hence affording Al Shabab the financial muscles to propel their atrocities.
"AMISOM, whose Kenyan Defence Contingents remain deployed at the port of Kismayu and Buur Gaabo, has neither assisted the Somalia authorities in implementing the charcoal ban nor facilitated monitoring group access to charcoal exporting ports," reads part of the report.
According to UN Al Shabab makes at least Sh1 billion a year in exporting the illegal charcoal through ports in South Somalia ports where the KDF is stationed.
