According to the locals of Ijara sub-county who spoke on Tuesday at a local media house, Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) have been treating the locals after health officers downed tools three weeks ago.
"I can say we now thank the KDF officers, they are helping us a lot because they are the ones treating us right now," Yassin.
A resident of Ijara constituency said.
For the past three weeks now, hospitals in Ijara constituency have been closed down after health officers abandoned their duties and left the county. The move by nurses and doctors in Ijara sub-county is allegedly due to security concerns.
Garissa county has been faced with Al-Shabab attacks in recent times.
Locals have been suffering and asked the government to intervene after teachers have also been reported to be leaving the county following the health officers departure.
Hospitals in Sangole and Ijara are yet to be opened.
"Mothers have been delivering here just like goats and it is very bad seeing such situations in this century," lamented a local whose neighbour had delivered under a tree.
Locals have asked the government to open the hospitals so that they can access health services.
"We have enough schools, there is no need for teachers to run away and there is also no need to close down hospitals. We ask the government to open the hospitals," a local said.
