Fast Foods business people at Kebirigo market on Thursday suffered huge losses, after Nyamira County healthy officers stormed the market and confiscated foods from their businesses.
According to the officers, this is one way of curbing the outbreak of Cholera, which broke a few weeks ago in the neighbouring county of Homabay.
The health officers, led by the Nyamira County public health director Andrew Ombati said that there was a ban imposed on the selling of the fast foods such 'Chips Mwitu' ( Chipsy that is sold by the roadsides).
“We had to carry out a spot check by ourselves to warn those who are ongoing with the business of selling the foods that were banned because that is our work,” said Ombati,
Alice Kemunto, a businesswoman who sells Chips at Kebirigo said that a whole bucket of chips that she was selling were taken away from her and thrown into a rubbish pit.
She added that her business has been sustaining her for the last five years; therefore she does not know how she is going to survive with her family as they solely depend on the chips to earn a living.
Hesbon Nyameino, who sells mandazi, also explained how she got a huge loss after all his mandazi that he used approximately Sh2000 to prepare were thrown into the rubbish bit.
The health officers urged the business people to work in hand with the county government so that the citizens can not blame them if the disease breaks in the county.
