Speaking at a consultative workshop at Eldoret town on Thursday, Kebs National chairperson Lucas Maitha said the influx of counterfeit goods is a concern noting that appropriate measures have been taken.

The chairman warned those engaged in distributing counterfeit goods saying their days are numbered if they fail to stop.

“We are putting on notice businessmen and individuals who import and sell counterfeit goods,” he said.

To tame and arrest the culprits, Mr Maitha said that monitoring measures have been put in place.

He said that the agency has embraced use of Information Technology to monitor and identify counterfeit goods.

The chairman added that use of ICT will put an end to the vice that threatens the country’s economy.

He also revealed plans to set up a multi-billion counterfeit laboratory that will be equipped with modern technologies.

Maitha said that selling substandard goods is against the constitution especially under the consumers’ rights.

The official said that Kebs will remain committed to ensure quality standards of imported and exported goods.
