The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) has constructed laboratories and regional offices in the North Rift with an aim of curbing entry of counterfeit goods in the western region of the country.
This comes after the state agency constructed new facilities for the Coast region in Mombasa and the Lake region in Kisumu city.
The new offices and laboratories constructed in Eldoret are expected to serve the North Rift, Bungoma and Busia which provide a market for goods and products from the neighboring country Uganda.
“The laboratories will further enhance testing and calibration services to support industries that have a major impact in the region such as flour, milk and tea sectors,” said the principal secretary for investment and industry Mr. Paul Nduati.
The agency has been targeting food products traded by Chinese supermarkets due to non-compliance in marketing. Manufacturers of animal feeds are also being closely monitored.
