Former Forestry Minister Noah Wekesa has hailed deceased independence hero John Keen as a ‘nationalist’ who should be emulated by the current crop of politicians.
Keen, a former Kajiado North MP died last week in Nairobi and will be laid to rest on Friday (today) at his Namanga home in Kajiado Central.
Speaking at Namanga to KTN, Wekesa revealed that Keen once vied for an MP seat in Trans Nzoia County, despite being an ‘outsider’.
“We have lost a nationalist who only few people can match in the present Kenya. He never knew anything to do with tribe or even clan. This is a leader Kenya will take a long time to forget,” he said.
“When I was Forestry minister, he donated a huge track of land to the Wildlife department due to his nationalist. He fought all sorts of stereotypes and worth to be emulated,” he added.
Keen was born to a German father (Albert Thomas) and a Maasai mother and is on record for being at loggerheads with President Daniel Moi during the KANU era.
