Diocese of Mombasa Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) Bishop Julius Kalu has urged Kenyans to be calm and peaceful as they wait for the Supreme Court ruling on the presidential petition set for Friday.

Speaking to journalists in Mombasa on Monday, Bishop Kalu said there is no need for anxiety, adding that court ruling will provide the direction.

He said that the Supreme Court is led by experienced judges and is constitutionally mandated to handle petitions.

“I want to urge Kenyans and politicians to be peaceful as we wait for the Supreme Court to complete hearing and make ruling on the presidential petition,” he said as quoted by the Daily Nation.

Bishop Kalu called on the religious leaders to continue praying for peace and sobriety in the country. He said that the Supreme Court petition is not a matter of life and death, adding that the country has to move on.

He also appealed to President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga to be ready to accept the outcome of the Supreme Court ruling on Friday.

The Supreme Court is currently hearing the petition filed by NASA which is challenging the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Led by Chief Justice David Maraga, the seven judge bench will on Friday make a ruling on the petition.

NASA is challenging Uhuru’s re-election on grounds that that results used to declare him the winner of the recently concluded general election was allegedly 'doctored' in his (Uhuru) favour.
