Marsabit County Department of Children Services has called on politicians to desist from using children to attend their campaign rallies as campaigns intensify.

Simeon Ogao, the County coordinator of children services said use of children in campaigns is a serious breach on their rights.

He said his office is aware that many children had absconded learning due to the euphoria and monetary gains created by the campaigns.

“Children are being exposed to many risks as they are seen hanging campaign vehicles,” he said.

He stressed that it is illegal for the children to participate in election campaigns due to monetary inducement.

Ogao has appealed to the IEBC to take action against politicians who are allowing children to participate in campaigns.

“The same children have been spotted in uniforms of political parties such as jerseys, caps and T-shirts. This is infringing on the rights and development of the youngsters. IEBC should take  action to politicians tolerating this,” he said.
