Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has been asked to stop meddling in Kwale politics.
ODM Tsimba-Golini ward chairperson Hamisi Rachuo said Joho should stick to his duties in the party and focus on delivering development to Mombasa residents.
He further advised Joho to respect democracy and allow Kwale residents to choose their leaders through free and fair elections.
“He should play his role as the deputy party leader and serve Mombasa people as well. Let him shun dictatorship and allow us to exercise our democratic right of electing the leaders we want,” said Joho.
Speaking during a press conference in Kwale Town, Rachuo dismissed Joho's move to endorse Boy Juma Boy's brother Issah Boy for the Kwale senator's seat, saying the party does not belong to the Boy family but to everyone.
He said Nominated Senator Agnes Zani deserves the seat, as she is an active ODM member and has been involved in development projects such as offering financial support to youth seeking to undertake driving courses.
“The party is not for the family but for all of us. We endorse Zani for the seat since she has demonstrated leadership in her capacity as the ODM secretary general,” said Rachuo.
He said Nicholas Zani should avoid family wrangles by vying for the Kwale gubernatorial seat instead of being influenced by outsiders to vie for senator.
National Council of Imams and Scholars (NCIS) Sheikh Hamisi Banda last week said Nicholas Zani is their preferred senate candidate, and thus should fore go his earlier ambitions of seeking the gubernatorial seat.
