Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to keep off the process of picking new Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners.
Joho said as the Cord coalition, they will also not interfere with the process in a bid to ensure the process is free from political interference.
Addressing his supporters before the official opening ceremony of the Mombasa Cultural festival on Thursday, Joho said they were aware of Jubilee's plan to influence the new bunch of commissioners who will head the commission.
“We want to ask President Uhuru Kenyatta and Jubilee leaders to stay away from IEBC if at all they support the idea of a free and fair election. Let the process be carried out without any political interference whatsoever,” said Joho.
Joho said as ODM’s deputy party leader, he will ensure that his party boss does not meddle into the process, something he says they have already agreed on.
The county boss said Raila Odinga is committed to ensuring the next general election is carried out without any malice.
The current commission‘s mandate will end on September 30.
