Meru Governor Peter Munya has castigated Devolution Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri for interfering and trying to influence Meru politics.
Speaking at Laare Trading Centre in Igembe South, Munya asked Kiunjuri to focus on gaining popularity at his home Laikipia County where he had little influence.
“If the CS lost Laikipia East parliamentary seat on the Grand National Union (GNU) party in the last general elections, will he really manage to influence even Laikipia County politics?” questioned Munya.
Kiunjuri was recently hosted by Munya's rival for the gubernatorial seat Kiraitu Murungi for a harambee in Meru, where he accused Munya of leading the region to opposition by opposing President Kenyatta's projects.
The CS emphasised on the need for the three communities in the region to remain united behind Jubilee government and asked them to ensure they are not "incited" into killing the region’s unity.
Together with his host Kiraitu, they accused the Council of Governors chairman of disrespect to President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto. Early this month, Kiunjuri and Munya clashed openly during a church service in Imenti over 2022 presidential race.
While Munya maintained that he will be gunning for the presidency, Kiunjuri told him to his face that he does not stand a chance to beat Deputy President William Ruto. The governor said Kiunjuri should continue with his job as a Cabinet secretary and leave residents to choose their preferred candidates.
