Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has told President Uhuru Kenyatta to keep off Mombasa politics.

Speaking on Sunday at the Akamba handicraft workshop in Changamwe, Omar said all non-residents, including the President, should stay away from the county's politics and allow locals to elect the leaders of their choice.

The Senator further warned Uhuru against harassing and intimidating Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho in a bid to prevent him from vying in the August polls, saying he (Joho) should be allowed to defend his seat.

Omar expressed confidence in unseating Joho and poked holes in his development track record, accusing him of doing nothing for Mombasa residents.

“I want the guy with the D- in the ballot. He is beatable because he has done nothing for Mombasa. Let Joho be on the ballot so that we can beat,” said Omar.

The outspoken Senator also dismissed the defection of Mombasa governor hopeful Hezron Awiti from Wiper, saying he will beat him regardless of the political outfit he will use to contest for the seat in August.Awiti defected from Wiper on Tuesday last week, citing an alleged plot to deny him the party ticket in favour of Omar.
