Coast Regional Commissioner Nelson Marwa on Thursday threw a salvo telling politicians to keep away from national government-managed projects.
Marwa said he won’t entertain politicians riding on the successes of the national government to seek for political mileage ahead of the August election. The no-nonsense former Mombasa county commissioner has been at loggerheads with some Coast politicians who accuse him of being deployed by President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration in the region with instructions to undermine elected leaders. He was speaking when he toured the Mtongwe ferry investment on Thursday.“My message is clear. There is a difference between politics and development. Keep away politics from national government project especially Mtongwe ferry,” he said.Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho in 2015 boldly told Marwa to desist from undermining his leadership by issuing instruction on how the county government should operate.Joho told Marwa he was an elected leader and would thus stand by the interests of the people of Mombasa who gave him the mandate to lead them between 2013 and 2017.At the time Uhuru had received a cold reception when he visited Mombasa for close to a week inspecting development projects in Joho’s absence.Uhuru’s tour angered Joho who told the president during his last rally shortly before flying back to Nairobi that Mombasa people would not entertain his business machinations.“If telling the truth is being disrespectful, I have nothing to say to Jubilee. I have no apology to make,” he said.Joho accuses Uhuru of planning to cause mass unemployment in Mombasa by transferring port services to Naivasha.
