Politicians have been challenged to stop politicising the construction of a multi-billion dam by the Ministry of Water and Irrigation in Bonyunyu in Nyamira County.
Lake Victoria South Water Surface board chairman Victor Omanwa said a section of politicians from the county are inciting residents to oppose the Sh5.8 billion project claiming they will be displaced and yet they won't be compensated.
Speaking to journalists in Nyamira town, Omanwa challenged politicians to stop politicising the project which he said will benefit residents in Gusii region.
“Let our politicians speak the truth instead of politicising government projects,” said the chairman.
He spoke during a public participation exercise over the construction of the proposed dam.
“Why are we ignoring the construction of the dam let us support the project which will cost Sh5.8 billion,” he added.
Bonyunyu MCA Andrew Magangi who was present said lauded the proposal advising residents that they stand to gain big from the project.
