Thika sub-county Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Jeremiah Gicheru has urged landlords from the area to know their tenants better to avoid cases where crimes are perpetrated from their premises.
Speaking from his office on Tuesday, the officer said that there have been cases where some tenants rent a house and use it to spy on the neighborhood with an aim of carrying out some criminal activities.
“When landlords know about their tenants well enough, then they can note something going on and report them to authorities,” said Gicheru.
The officer also said that for the landlords who work far or do not live in their premises they should employ a trusted caretaker who will in turn know every tenant and the work they do as a way of enhancing security among them.
Gicheru who observed that Nyumba Kumi initiative had effectively worked in some parts of the region also urged the residents to report any form of suspicion in their neighborhood.
“We will continue to provide security to the locals and they should also continue reporting to us any form of crime for us to ensure safety in the area. We will make sure we respond to any call from the public and I promise to work with the residents all through the year,” said Gicheru.
