Murang'a Senator Kembi Gitura has cautioned the county's residents against voting Kiharu MP Irungu Kang'ata over him during the forthcoming polls.
Speaking on Tuesday, Gitura cited the recent protests staged against him attending President Uhuru Kenyatta's rally in the region, accusing Kang'ata of being responsible.
“I did not invite myself to that tour. I was invited by organisers as the Senator of Murang’a, much like every other leader who attended," he said.
“If they wanted me to leave they should just have asked me to leave instead of holding protests,” he added.
The Senate Deputy Speaker further affirmed his support for President Uhuru Kenyatta, calling on the constituents to rally behind the Head of State's bid.
Gitura lost the Jubilee Party ticket to Kang'ata during the primaries, but has since moved to seek fresh mandate as an independent candidate.
