Yatta Member of Parliament Francis Mwangangi has called upon The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) to mark bumps and erect sign posts on Machakos-Kitui and Thika-Garrisa highway in a bid to reduce the number of accidents happening in the region.
Mwangangi said that many Kenyans have lost their loved ones on the Kithimani and Matuu along the Thika-Garrisa highway as well as Machakos and Kitui because of the lack of sign posts and unmarked speed bumps.
The leader argued that marking of bumps will ensure that drivers who are not familiar with the route take the necessary measures in order to avoid causing deaths throughout the year.
Mwangangi asked the National Transport and Safety Authority to be very vigilant in its duties to curb the loss of lives on the Kenya roads especially during this festive season.
The Mp also urged motorist to observe traffic rules whenever they are driving and avoid drinking alcohol when going behind the wheel.
“We do not want to lose lives and end up mourning instead of celebrating Christmas,” Mwangangi said.
His sentiments come at time when the nation is still mourning more than 40 individuals who succumbed to death following the grisly accident along Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.
