The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has clarified that it was not responsible for the tragic accdent at Karai, along Naivasha-nakuru highway.

The Saturday night accident involved a canter carrying flammable substance, which hit speed bump, ramming into 13 vehicles. It the resulted to an inferno.

According to KeNHA, the bumps were clearly marked and there were rumble strips preceding the bumps putting the blame on careless driving.

"This is to confirm that bumps at Karai accident scene were marked and signage in existence thus not the cause of accident as alleged," KeNHA said in a statement.

The agency said that the bumps were erected in January 2016, as a result of community demands, with the involvement of the community and NTSA.

The death toll of the accident stands at 43.
