Speaking in Kikuyu Town on Thursday, Macharia said KeNHA was behind schedule in implementing the road plan.

The CS who was accompanied by his PS Eng Mosonik, Kenha Director General Peter Mundinia and area MP Kimani Ichung'wa visited the area to familiarise with concerns raised by Kikuyu MP in the National Assembly a month ago.

The delegation visited the Southern Bypass from Thogoto, Ma-ya-ihii to Kikuyu Town and Gitaru junction.

Ichung'wa had termed in parliament the issues of footbridges, access and exit roads on the bypass as needing urgent attention.

He had also highlighted the railways overpass at Kikuyu railway station to Ondiri, the Steel Rolling road to Nameless, drainage issues and the sidewalks from the Kikuyu bus park.

Macharia appreciated the magnitude of the issues and directed Kenha to work on them.

"Some of the issues are behind schedule like the drainage and sidewalks. Am therefore directing KeNHA to roll out a programme that will bring short term, medium term and longterm solutions," said Macharia.

The road was constructed to reduce congestion in Nairobi by providing an alternative route for motorists going to western Kenya and other destinations.
