[Photo/kenyatalk.com]The government has announced plans to end perennial transport problems between Tana River and Garissa counties.Through Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA), the State said it has moved closer into tarmacking of the 330-kilometer Mombasa-Garissa road.The authority communications manager Charles Njogu said the road design will be completed this year and the actual construction will begin soon after the government receives funding from its developing partners.The State is targeting African Development Bank and the Chinese government. "The project is currently at the design stage and is being funded by the World Bank. Design work will be completed this year and enable the government to obtain cost estimates for the construction of the road, and bidding documents with which to source funding and perform an international competitive bidding exercise," said Njogu on Wednesday, as quoted by the Nation.He said the public hearings meetings over the project are scheduled to be conducted in local Chief's offices between February 5 and 9."The general public within the project area are hereby notified and invited to attend the public consultation forums," the agency has announced in a public notice.Njogu said the East African Engineering Consultants and M/S Roughton International have been engaged to carry out Resettlement Action Plan that will guide KeNHA on resettlement and compensation affected by the project.
