“Transportation in the area will improve if the bridge gets a landing site at the port of Mombasa. The process is however highly consultative as every stakeholder ought to be involved in the bid to decongest the Coastal island,” said Mundinia.

In March this year, the Jubilee government secured a construction grant to aid the designing and building of the bridge.

Concerning the Dongo Kundu bypass, Mundinia said the Transport Ministry is holding high level talks with the Japanese government to see the foreign nation provide funding for the second and third phase.
