US ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec has said Kenya's bilateral relations with Washington DC will not be affected despite the US withdrawing funding to the Ministry of Health.

Speaking in Vihiga County on Wednesday, Godec described the relationship between the two countries as "cordial", affirming America's commitment to supporting Kenya in different sectors.

"We are proud to be associated with Kenya. USA and Kenya have been friends for over 50 years, a relationship that has bound our people together through issues of socio-economic development," he observed.

"We will continue to stand with you hand in hand to work together for the betterment of Kenya," he added.

The US, through USAID cut funding for activities carried out at the Ministry of Health, citing massive corruption in the department.

“The United States Ambassador to Kenya issued a letter to the Government of Kenya suspending US Government including USAID direct assistance to the Ministry of Health,” USAID's Contracting Officer Brian Woody said in a statement on Tuesday.
