Governors have signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Council of Governors and the Ministry of Health for the hiring of 100 Cuban Medical Specialists.

The specialists will be deployed to work with the existing medical teams and remain in the service of the 47 counties for a period of two years.

Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi who was also present hailed the decision on Monday, saying: "the acquisition of these specialists will go a long way in complementing efforts done by our local specialists and improve health service delivery through knowledge transfer."

Kilifi County will have a Urologist who will be stationed at the Malindi Referral Hospital and a Family Physician who will be operating at the Mariakani and Bamba Sub-County Hospitals.

Moreover, the governor said one of the county doctors from Mariakani Sub-County Hospital will be among the 50 Kenyan Medical Doctors selected to go to Cuba for specialized training as "we push forward our agenda to ensure we attain global standards of healthcare services for our people."
