Kenya and Uganda police officers are now cooperating towards guarding the Migingo island following months of tension.
This after police chiefs from the two countries met and discussed on how to guard the island jointly.
According to Nation, the officers are now conducting joint patrols on the island minimising conflict.
Residents who addressed the daily said that life has become more bearable on the disputed island due to cooperation from security agencies.
The meeting between Kenya's Joseph Boinnet and his Ugandan counterpart Kale Kayihura focused on ways of enhancing cordial relations to avert strife.
Mr Boinnet and Mr Kayihura said they wanted to see a peaceful Migingo where officers from both countries conducted joint patrols as the ownership dispute is being solved.
