Kenyan and Ugandan governments have entered into an agreement that will see both countries administer Migingo Island jointly.
The agreement was signed on Wednesday by police chiefs from both countries after talks after talks that were held on Wednesday at Jogoo House in Nairobi.
Kenya’s Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet and his Ugandan counterpart General Kale Kayihura both signed the deal on behalf of their governments in an effort to avoid territorial disputes between the nations.
Police from either country will have the powers to enforce the law without discriminating based on nationality.
Earlier in 2011, a meeting between the two countries had resolved to have international surveyors check the island and determine the real ownership.
